Drawn from 14 books of the Bible, it contains 81 Bible verses, primarily from the King James Version of the Bible.

Madelon's talk will focus on the biblical underpinnings of Handel's great work

 

Our talented Morristown church musicians will bring the text to life with musical selections that beautifully illustrate each part. 

 

Jesus' iconic journey from birth to resurrection becomes fresh and new in Madelon Maupin’s bold, new adaptation.

 

As she focuses on the biblical underpinnings of Handel's Messiah, she brings a thrilling and fresh approach to the old, old story, which will surely capture your entire family's imagination and fill audiences with the spirit of the season.

 

Madelon will explore the intricacies and spiritual meaning of the three sections of Messiah: 

  • The prophecies and nativity – the basis for our Christmas season
  • The passion
  • The resurrection 

She will include the irreplaceable contribution of librettist Charles Jennens, who sent the libretto to Handel in 1741.

A Journey Through Music and Meaning

  • More than a narrative drama, Messiah provides different views of the much-awaited Messiah spanning centuries from the Hebrew Scriptures to the New Testament, giving a renewed sense of the “God is in charge” message underlying the Scriptures.
  • The librettist (Jennens) and composer (Handel) intended Messiah to be more than a musical offering but rather a statement of faith in Christ’s divinity.
  • Handel wrote to someone who congratulated him on the “entertainment” Messiah provided:  

    “My Lord, I should be sorry if I only entertain them; I wish to make them better.”

  • A dedicated Christian and spiritual thinker.
